From Bump to Baby: A Tucson Story Told in Two Sessions
There are some sessions that just feel like magic — and this one (well, two!) is one I’ll never forget. I had the absolute joy of photographing this growing family for both their maternity and newborn sessions, and together we created something truly special: a visual story that begins with anticipation and ends with a new little life in their arms.
We began their maternity session in their cozy Tucson home. The light poured in through the windows while they brewed lattes in the kitchen (yes, they were as good as they looked). We moved from sipping and chatting to reading sweet baby books out loud, with mom gently resting her hand on her growing belly. She showed me the nursery — a dreamy little room with a hand-painted mural that she created herself. Not only is she an incredible soon-to-be mom, but she’s also a wildly talented artist right here in Tucson. Talk about multi-tasking magic!
After capturing those at-home moments, we took a walk through their neighborhood nestled in the foothills. It was golden hour perfection. We laughed, we worried about the light (okay, I worried, but that’s what photographers do), and we captured their everyday life just as it was: beautiful in all its simplicity.
Then baby boy arrived, and we did it all again. This time with him in their arms.
Returning to the same spaces post-birth was surreal and wonderful. We photographed them cuddling on the same couch, now with a tiny new family member curled into their chests. We paused in the nursery again, only now that room was filled with little cries, diaper changes, and so much love. The mural on the wall took on even more meaning. The light, the laughter, the calm chaos — it all unfolded naturally, and I got to witness it with my camera.
The best part? We wrapped it all up in one of my favorite things — a custom photo book. It’s filled with images from both sessions, a treasure for their baby boy to flip through someday. A true time capsule of who they were before and after they became parents.
These kinds of sessions — the ones that span time and tell a bigger story are what fill my cup. They’re real. They’re layered. They honor not just the big milestones, but the quiet, in-between beauty too.
If you’re expecting and dreaming of a way to remember this season in a deeper way, consider starting with a maternity session and following through with a newborn one. Or better yet, ask me about my Year-in-the-Life package, and we’ll document it all as your story unfolds.
Because every bump, bottle, bedtime, and beyond is worth remembering.
